Archery stances
Archery: draw (stance) question?

How do I hold the bow straight at full draw? Whenever I hold the the string (with my right hand) the right side of my body tilts with it.

I was looking at some archery vids and at 1.46 in the one below they show a frontal shot of a woman holding it so straight you can’t see her elbow. If that was me my shoulder and elbow would be sticking out.

If YOU are comfortable with your archery technique, and you achieve the desired results – i.e., putting the arrow where you want it to go – why worry about what others say you “must” do to “improve”? If you are consistent in everything you do, and you are accurate, that’s what really matters – unless you are doing something such as Kyudo archery, in which case following the ritualistic forms means a lot.

Check out this video of Byron Ferguson. I bet he does it differently than the woman in the video you linked to – yet he gets the same desired results.

By the way, in Olympic style archery and when using compound bows, it is relatively very easy to make the “impossible shots” – especially when you can hold that string at full draw for over three minutes.
